American Soccer Roundup for June 17th

-The Confederations Cup resumes today. Spain will get a tougher challenge from Iraq, but should have no problem getting a victory. South Africa will face New Zealand. MLS action tonight on ESPN2 (10:30 PM EST) has Seattle hosting DC United.

-Greg Seltzer over at Soccer365 is reporting that Jermaine Jones will be eligible to play for USMNT on August 2nd. It is big news for the US, who can now incorporate Jones into an already talented midfield.

-Steve Davis discusses the diminishing role of a bruising holding midfielder in his column over at MLSNet.

-Toronto waived Johann Smith yesterday. Smith, once a promising prospect in the Bolton youth system, would be do well to sign a top USL club to attempt to get his career back on track.
